Getting the Most from Your Roses

Get roses into water as soon as possible until you are ready to arrange them. Then, using a clean vase, fill it ¾ full with lukewarm water. Add the packet of flower food. Remove any foliage that will end up being below the water line. Cut the stems at a 45 degree angle while underwater, about an inch up the stem and then place in the vase.

For optimum vase life, repeat these steps every three days--take the flowers out of the vase, and clean your vase with hot water. Then, refill the vase with clean, warm water and flower food; cut your stems an inch under water; and place back in the vase. On a daily basis, check the water level and add warm water as needed.

If your roses begin to wilt, you may be able to revive them. Trim off about an inch from the bottom of its stem and then submerge the entire rose under water in a sink or bathtub. Allow the stem to absorb water for about 20-60 minutes before returning them to their vase.

Lastly, try to keep your Roses in a cool area, preferably away from direct light or heat sources. If you want their blooms to open quickly, temporarily place them in a warm, but not hot, spot.
